New Course: Cartoons, Computers and Comic Books

Why are all comics about other people? Aren’t you the most interesting person around? Should you be a super hero instead of that Clark Kent dude? Here’s your chance. Starting January 4, our own Sebastian Mondrone will be coaching a new version of this course on creating cartoons using Comic Life and iMovie. For more information, see the course description.

NBC visits Stratolab to help Wednesday’s Child

Some of you may have heard of WNBC’s news segment “Wednesday’s Child”. Every week Janice Huff interviews a foster child who would like to be adopted. They find out some interest of the child such as sports, music, or…video games, and they arrange for him or her to get a lesson. It’s a wonderful program. [...]

Animated Tour of Stratolab HQ

Zach, one of our students from summer, wrote an animated tour of Stratolab’s international headquarters. Kitty Pretty, your hostess, shows around the spacious entry hall and explores the vast expanses of the programming chamber. The highlight of the tour is the robot wrestling arena. He missed the heliport on the roof though. The animation was written [...]

— Sincerely,
Sharon R.

“Shaun is having such a fantastic time”

Shaun is having such a fantastic time…every Monday he comes bursting in the door and dives for the computer to show me what he has done. It’s great! — Pennelope G.

It’s on West 72nd Street on Manhattan’s Upper West Side where most of our clients are, near the express subway stop for the 1/2/3 trains and also the B/C trains. It’s next to ButterCup Bakery and just a [...]

“My daughter had a terrific time and also learned so much”

“My daughter had a terrific time and also learned so much during your Robotics Camp. She was so sad that it all came to an end. She seemed more self confident at the end of the week. Thank you again and please say thank you to all your most valuable assistants, who are wonderful and terrific with kids. It was a comforting thought that when I dropped her off in the morning, I knew she was in good hands. That is truly a gift for any parent.”

Scratch – from MIT Media Lab

MIT’s Media Lab has just released Scratch. Scratch is a drag-and-drop development environment for writing visual programs such as animations or video games. It has a similar interface as StarLogo TNG, also from MIT, but it is much faster and easier to use. Other kid’s programming environments I’ve looked at such as StageCast, AgentSheets, and ToonTalk pale in comparison. StageCast and [...]
